Aerospace

From jet engine to airframe parts, Quintus Technologies presses support aerospace manufacturers in meeting strict requirements for safety, quality, and performance.

Advanced forming and densification solutions for aerospace industry

Aerospace manufacturing requires controlled processes, reliable materials, and consistent results. Components must meet strict safety and certification requirements while performing under demanding mechanical and thermal conditions.

Quintus Technologies supports this with two high pressure technologies: Hot Isostatic Pressing (HIP) for material densification and Flexform™ sheet metal forming for complex formed parts.

Meeting aerospace material demands

Aerospace components rely on high-performance materials such as titanium alloys, nickel-based alloys, aluminum alloys, and stainless steels. Each is chosen for specific properties, including strength, low weight, heat resistance, and corrosion resistance.

Quintus technologies help manufacturers process these materials with greater consistency and reliability, supporting applications from critical engine components to structural airframe parts.

Ensuring material integrity with HIP technology

HIP applies high pressure and heat uniformly around a component to reduce internal porosity and voids in cast, powder metallurgy, and additively manufactured parts.

This improves material consistency, strength, fatigue performance, and durability, making HIP well suited for critical aerospace components such as turbine blades, impellers, and other engine parts.

Supporting additive manufacturing in aerospace

Additive manufacturing enables lightweight designs and complex geometries such as turbine blades and thin-walled heat exchangers. However, printed parts contain residual porosity and variation in material properties.

HIP helps improve the integrity of additively manufactured parts and ensure consistent mechanical performance. For selected materials, Quintus High Pressure Heat Treatment, HPHT™, can combine HIP and heat treatment in one cycle, shorten production time and greater control over final properties.

Flexible sheet metal forming with Flexform™ Fluid Cell presses

Aerospace manufacturers often produce a wide variety of sheet metal parts in relatively low volumes. Flexform™ fluid cell forming, or hydroforming, is well suited to these requirements and is used by leading aircraft manufacturers and tier suppliers for prototyping and low-volume production of airframe components.

The high forming pressure enables complex and detailed shapes with repeatable quality, while reducing the need for hand correction and intermediate heat treatments.

Flexform™ Deep Draw forming for engine and structural components

Quintus Flexform™ Deep Draw presses support economical low-volume hydroforming of complex and deep sheet metal parts, including tough alloys used in jet engine applications.

Standard models cover forming diameters from 800 to 1100 mm. Typical components include jet engine exhaust ducts, heat shields, and diffuser rings.

Improving quality and productivity

Aerospace manufacturers must maintain high quality while managing lead times, tooling needs, and production efficiency.

Quintus HIP and Flexform™ technologies help manufacturers ensure part quality, reduce process variation, and improve efficiency from development through qualified manufacturing.

A trusted partner to the aerospace industry

Quintus Technologies has supported aerospace manufacturers and their supply chains for decades. Our high pressure technologies are trusted in processes for engine components, airframe structures, and other demanding aerospace parts.

With experience across both HIP and sheet metal forming, Quintus helps manufacturers develop stable processes, meet production requirements, and support long-term aerospace programs.
