Con presiones típicas de entre 1.035 y 2.070 bar (de 15.000 a 30.000 psi) y temperaturas de hasta 2.000 °C (4.000 °F), el proceso HIP puede alcanzar el 100 % de la densidad teórica máxima del material.

Propiedades mejoradas

El proceso HIP mejora las propiedades mecánicas, reduce en general la variabilidad de estas propiedades y permite pulir incluso piezas fundidas, soldadas o de metal sinterizado, consiguiendo un acabado superficial óptimo.

Preguntas frecuentes

En la tecnología HIP se utiliza un recipiente de presión con un horno en su interior y gas a muy alta presión, generalmente argón a alta temperatura, para consolidar materiales y eliminar defectos internos, como porosidades o microfisuras. Debido a que en la tecnología HIP se manejan temperaturas muy cercanas a las utilizadas en tratamientos por calor, suelen ocurrir fluencias, difusiones y deformaciones o defectos mecánicos debido a la elevada presión externa.

Ya que la tecnología HIP elimina defectos internos en la carga, se mejoran las propiedades del material, como la resistencia a la fatiga, a la elongación y a los impactos. El posterior esmerilado o pulido de las superficies demuestra unos excelentes valores de rugosidad, sin porosidades no deseadas, puesto que la tecnología HIP solventa estos inconvenientes. puesto que la tecnología HIP solventa estos inconvenientes.

Los equipos HIP modernos de Quintus funcionan a una temperatura máxima de 2000 °C (3632 °F) y a una presión máxima de 2000 MPa (30 000 psi). Los parámetros dependen del material, y generalmente un aumento de la presión permite utilizar una menor temperatura para conservar la microestructura del material. No obstante, el ciclo HIP utilizado no debe superar la temperatura de fusión del material tratado.

El tratamiento HIP se utiliza para consolidar polvos, sólidos y cualquier combinación de estos. Se pueden tratar materiales cerámicos, metálicos y resinas compuestas. El tratamiento HIP se utiliza en materiales ligeros, aceros de alta velocidad y herramientas de acero y superaleaciones, y en la actualidad se están desarrollando materiales de nueva generación, como aleaciones de alta entropía, mediante esta tecnología.

Como la atmósfera de alta presión actúa de forma isotrópica sobre las superficies de los componentes en la zona caliente, la fuerza mecánica ejercida es uniforme. Esto significa el tratamiento HIP no modifica la forma de las piezas sólidas. El gas ejerce la misma presión en los canales internos mientras sigan abiertos. Es posible tratar con HIP piezas elaboradas mediante fundición, moldeado por inyección de metal y AM, y se pueden utilizar polvos para conformar componentes sólidos (PM HIP o PM NNS, pulvimetalurgia de forma casi neta).
